The Cause of Obesity

Title: What is the cause of Obesity?

I’d like to thank Mike Ferguson for his article Published:Saturday, September 12, 2015,  Highlighting how Polk County is the “seventh most obese metropolitan area in the Country …”.

However the balance of his article, along with the touted Polk Vision 5-2-1-0 Initiative, is nothing more than repeating the “mantra” we have heard over the past 30 years; that “it is calories and not sugar” that is the problem thus “less calories and more exercise” has been the “medical solution,” yet people are fatter and sicker today than ever before in history. Why?

Can we now address the origin behind this illustrious obese distinction: It’s called The Metabolic Syndrome, which includes:
·         Heart Disease,
·         Lipid Problems,
·         Hypertension,
·         Type2 Diabetes,
·         Dementia,
·         Cancer,
·         Polysystic Ovarian Syndrome and
·         Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

The Metabolic Syndrome accounts for 75% of the Global Health Costs and impacts over 60% of Americans.

If there was one substance, ingredient, or poison that is infused into our entire food supply, and identified as a direct cause of the Metabolic Syndrome, and that substance was known to be 8 times more addictive than Cocaine, one might want to know what “it” was.

It’s called Sugar:

·         in most of its forms to include: Sucrose, High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), Fructose, and its

·         Substitutions such as: Acesulfame potassium, Agave nectar. Aspartame AKA: Equal, NutraSweet, Neotame, Stevia leaf extract, Saccharin AKA: Sweet’N Low, Sucralose AKA: Splenda , Sugar alcohols AKA: Sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol, for example.

Before we have string of scientist, on both sides of this issue, emerge touting why “their” view point is etc; research the following references and decide for yourself:
  • ·         Dr Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology.  There are a string of mini medical school courses on this subject.
  • ·         John Yudkin who in 1972 wrote Pure White and Deadly”
  • ·         The Science Channel National Geographic Best Documentary 2015 - The Secrets Of Sugar.
  • ·         Documentary, “That Sugar Film” by Damon Gameau

If you refuse to learn, no one can help you.  If you choose to learn, no one can stop you.

Time to Fix 23 + years of bad State and National Policy

Time to Fix 23 + years of bad State and National Policy

Vote NO on Rep. Pompeo's "Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act," (H.R. 1599).  The bill, is being called the “Deny Americans the Right-to-Know Act (DARK Act),” and would do the following:
  • Prevent states from adopting their own Genetic Engineering (GE) otherwise known as GMO labeling laws.
  • Block any attempt by states to make it illegal for food companies to put a “natural” label on products that contain GE otherwise known as GMO  ingredients.
  • Prevent the Food and Drug Administration from requiring companies to label GE or GMO ingredients and instead continue a failed “voluntary” labeling policy
As a long time supporter of the GOP it pains me to realize that while under GOP leadership, the then Vice President Dan Quayle announced the FDA's policy on genetically engineered food (Genetically Modified Organisms or GMOs) as part of his "regulatory relief initiative."

When Quayle explained the flawed 1992 policy, he stated it was based on the idea that genetic engineering (GMOs) are no different than traditional plant breeding, and therefore required no new regulations.

And guess who crafted this FDA new policy?  The policy was crafted by Michael Taylor, a former Monsanto lawyer who was hired by the Bush FDA to fill the newly created position of deputy commissioner of policy.

Dan Quayle, the man who could not spell potato, was either: miss-led or just simply got it wrong; and yet subsequent elected Democrats and Republicans still get it wrong.

After all, where are the peer viewed studies that PROVE GMOs are Safe for our soils, water, Human and Animal consumption?

In my lifetime I have heard so called “experts” tell us that PCBs, Tobacco, Asbestos, Agent Orange, and even DDT were safe.  50 years after known risks were proven, many of these commodities are still on the market - GMOs are no different.

Contact Adam Putnam, Governor Scott, all your elected State, Local and Federal representatives and ask them -  What side of history do they want to be known to have stood for – as a protector of our Health and our State and National soils, water and food - or someone that worked to Poison it?

It is time to fix 23 plus years of unintended consequences of this bad policy.

Have Floridian leaders lost their mind?

Reply to:  A New Leaf: Tax Law Change Would Be Boost for Citrus Growers By Kevin Bouffard
THE LEDGER

Have Floridian leaders lost their mind?

According to Adam Putnam, Florida will lose all of its citrus crops in less than 10 years; why – because of failed leadership and poor policy by Adam Putnam, Gov Scott and Marco Rubio, and all those who continue to embrace the smallest subset of scientists who think re-engineering nature is the way to go.
Brief History of Citrus Greening:
·         1919 - first discovered in China
·         1956 - Lin Kung Hsiang (researcher from China) concluded that greening is a graft transmissible infectious disease, NOT related to physiological disorders (e.g. nutrient deficiencies, water logging, etc.) or soil borne diseases (e.g. phytophthora, etc.)
·       2005 - Citrus greening was first confirmed in south Miami-Dade county
·       2015 - Gov Scott, the GOP and DEMS in Tallahassee are giving tax breaks to the very folks and corporations who have unleashed this disease on our soil, in effort to continue to allow these grafted trees and Genetically Modified trees to flourish in Florida.  Farmers have stated that they now have to re-plant trees annually in effort to combat citrus greening. Why do we allow this bad policy to continue?

The solution, according to Gov Scott and Adam Putnam, is too throw more of our money at their bad policy in effort to prop up a failing industry – an industry known to fail due to bad agricultural policy – I guess you just can’t fix stupid.
